Science

At Oxley, we want your child to be curious about the world around them and excited to discover how and why things happen. Our science curriculum encourages children to ask questions, explore their ideas and develop a lasting enthusiasm for learning about the natural and physical world.

Through practical investigations and enquiry-based learning, children develop essential scientific knowledge, skills and vocabulary. They are encouraged to make predictions, carry out fair tests, observe carefully, record their findings and use evidence to explain what they have discovered. These stimulating experiences help children secure their understanding while giving them the confidence to think and work like scientists.

Our science teaching follows the National Curriculum, with White Rose Science providing the foundation for our planning and progression. Learning is carefully sequenced so that children can build upon their existing knowledge and apply their skills across science and other areas of the curriculum.

Children also explore how science affects their everyday lives, the world today and the possibilities of the future. Our aim is for every child to leave Oxley as a confident and curious lifelong learner, equipped with the scientific understanding and skills needed to explore our fascinating and ever-changing world.
