Caterpillars

Caterpillars: Learning and Growing

In Caterpillars, we are at the very beginning of our exciting journey through Oxley Primary School. Our warm and welcoming classroom is a place where children can feel happy, safe and confident as they learn and grow. We spend lots of time learning about ourselves and our feelings, building friendships, communicating with others and becoming familiar with our classroom rules and routines. We also explore the Oxley values and encourage every child to show an enthusiastic ‘I can’ attitude in everything they do!

Every day in Caterpillars is filled with opportunities to explore, discover and have fun. We learn together as a whole class, take part in small-group activities with an adult and enjoy plenty of time choosing our own learning both inside and outdoors. Our adults carefully observe how the children play and learn, helping them to plan activities that are exciting, meaningful and matched to their interests.

Our learning is brought to life through a range of engaging topics. This year, our themes are:

  • Who am I and where do I belong?

  • What happens in the night sky?

  • What happened 'Once upon a time..?'

  • What makes animals amazing?

  • How does your garden grow?

  • What is it like where I live?
