PSHE
At Oxley, we want your child to grow into a happy, healthy and confident individual who feels prepared for life both within and beyond school. Our Personal, Social, Health and Economic (PSHE) curriculum gives children the knowledge, skills and understanding they need to keep themselves safe, make informed choices and develop positive relationships.
Learning is carefully planned to be age-appropriate, inclusive and relevant to the lives of our children. It celebrates the different backgrounds, experiences and identities within our school community while helping pupils understand important themes such as health and well-being, relationships, diversity, equality, rights and responsibilities.
PSHE is woven throughout life at Oxley through dedicated lessons, assemblies and wider school experiences. Children learn through discussions, stories, role-play and real-life scenarios, creating meaningful opportunities to consider different situations and viewpoints. We provide a safe and supportive environment where your child can ask questions, explore sensitive topics and express their thoughts and feelings with confidence.
Through PSHE, children learn to understand and manage their emotions, develop resilience and show empathy towards others. They are supported to make healthy choices, build respectful relationships and recognise when and how to ask a trusted adult for help.
Ofsted has recognised the positive contribution our PSHE provision makes to pupils’ personal development and well-being, including how well it prepares them for the opportunities, responsibilities and challenges of later life.
Our partnership with parents and the wider community is an important part of this work. By working together, we can help every child develop the confidence, values and life skills they need to flourish and make a positive contribution to the world around them.
Zones of Regulation
At Oxley, we use the Zones of Regulation to help your child recognise, understand and manage their emotions. This trusted, evidence-informed approach gives children a shared language for talking about how they feel and teaches them practical strategies they can use to regulate their emotions and behaviour.
Children learn that experiencing different emotions is a normal part of life and that no zone is “bad.” Instead, we support them to identify what they are feeling, understand what their body may be telling them and choose helpful strategies to meet their needs.
These lifelong skills can help children develop greater self-awareness, resilience and confidence, enabling them to feel calm, safe and ready to learn.
If you would like to find out more about the Zones of Regulation or how you can support your child at home, please speak to Miss Evans, Mrs May or your child’s class teacher.
