Enrichment and Experiences

Learning that goes beyond the classroom

At Oxley, we believe that a great curriculum is about much more than what happens in lessons. We want our children to experience, explore, perform, contribute, question, lead and create. Our curriculum is therefore enriched wEnrichmentith opportunities that bring learning to life, broaden horizons and help children discover interests and talents they may not yet know they have. This reflects our wider curriculum vision: providing children with an engaging and broad curriculum that develops independence, resilience and a genuine love of learning.

Bringing learning to life

Throughout their time at Oxley, children take part in a wide range of educational visits and

trips linked to their learning. We also welcome visitors, specialists and organisations into school, giving children opportunities to learn from people with different skills, experiences and areas of expertise.

Our children also have opportunities to take their learning beyond the everyday school environment through residential experiences and outdoor learning. These experiences develop much more than curriculum knowledge; they encourage independence, resilience, teamwork, confidence and, of course, create some fantastic memories along the way!

Celebrating, performing and sharing

We love giving our children opportunities to shine. Across the school, children take part in class assemblies, performances and productions, developing their confidence in speaking, performing and presenting to an audience.

Throughout the year, we also recognise and celebrate a range of special days, weeks and events. These might link to our curriculum, wellbeing, equality, reading, the wider world or important national and international events. They provide opportunities to explore important ideas together and help our children understand the world beyond Oxley.

Making a difference

Enrichment is also about helping children recognise the positive contribution they can make to their community and the wider world.

Our children are actively involved in charity fundraising and community events, often helping to choose the causes we support and thinking creatively about how they can raise both money and awareness. Pupil leadership has long played an important role in this at Oxley, helping children understand that their ideas and actions really can make a difference.

As children move through school, these opportunities grow with them. Our Year 6 Enterprise experience, for example, gives our oldest pupils the chance to put their ideas into action. They plan, organise, budget, advertise, work as a team and run their own enterprise activities – developing valuable real-life skills while taking increasing responsibility for their own projects.

Opportunities to discover something new

We want every child to leave Oxley having experienced things that have sparked their curiosity, built their confidence and perhaps uncovered a new passion. Enrichment is therefore woven throughout school life rather than being seen as an occasional ‘extra’.

Whether children are performing on stage, heading off on a trip, meeting an inspiring visitor, raising money for charity, representing their class, taking part in a residential, celebrating a special event or running an enterprise, each experience contributes to their wider personal development.

It is all part of helping our children to Be kind. Be brilliant. Have an I can attitude.

See enrichment in action!

There is always far too much happening at Oxley to capture on one webpage! For a closer look at our trips, visitors, performances, special events, fundraising, residentials and everyday enrichment opportunities, follow @oxley_primary on Instagram, where we regularly share what our children have been getting up to.

Extra Curricular experiences

We offer a wide range of extra-curricular activities during lunchtimes and after school. Throughout the year, our teaching and support staff run a variety of clubs, giving children across all key stages opportunities to develop new skills, explore their interests and have fun.

Some of our fantastic KS2 pupils also lead a selection of lunchtime clubs. With support from staff, they promote independence, confidence and enjoyment through activities such as art, drama and sports..

Every lunchtime, our wonderful sports coaches provide additional sporting activities. A rota system ensures that all classes have an equal opportunity to take part. On Thursdays, our House Captains run the ball court!

Many clubs take place during the school day. When a club runs after school, parents and carers will be notified and invited to register their child through Arbor.

Using Arbor to book clubs

All children are welcome to sign up for clubs available to their year group or key stage. Each half term, relevant clubs will appear on the Arbor Parent App and Parent Portal, where parents can book a place and give permission for their child to attend. Some places are limited and will be allocated on a first-come, first-served basis.
