Panthers

In Panthers, we work hard to become confident, curious and independent learners who take pride in our achievements and take responsibility for our own progress. We encourage children to ask thoughtful questions, share their ideas, embrace new challenges and support one another, always approaching learning with a positive ‘I can’ attitude.
This year, our History lessons take us on a fascinating journey through time as we explore how children's lives have changed, discover the wonders of ancient Egypt and investigate the remarkable achievements of the ancient Maya civilisation. In Geography, we travel to some incredible places, from the frozen landscapes of Antarctica to settlements around the world, before exploring rivers and the important role they play in our lives.
Creativity is at the heart of our learning. In Art, children experiment with expressive charcoal drawings, explore shape and colour, and bring their imaginations to life through three-dimensional creations. Our Product Design lessons provide exciting opportunities to design and make product packaging, construct mechanical cars and explore seasonal cooking. In Computing, children develop their programming skills using Scratch before learning how to organise and explore information through branching databases.
Our practical Science lessons encourage children to investigate, question and think like budding scientists. Throughout the year, we explore skeletons, movement, nutrition and healthy diets, before investigating forces, magnets and light. Children also discover the fascinating world of plants, rocks, soils and fossils, while developing an understanding of biodiversity and important environmental issues such as food waste.
Music is another exciting part of life in Panthers, with children exploring rhythm, pitch and music technology. Year 3 children develop their musical skills through learning the recorder, while Year 4 children enjoy the opportunity to learn the saxophone. In French, children build their confidence in speaking a new language through engaging topics including animals, classroom vocabulary and pets.
We also place great importance on helping children grow into kind, respectful and responsible individuals. Through PSHE, children explore friendships, inclusion, online safety, different careers and how to recognise safe and unsafe situations. Our World Cultures and Beliefs lessons encourage children to appreciate different perspectives as they explore Hindu and Christian beliefs and traditions.
Our love of reading is woven throughout the curriculum. Through exciting novel studies, carefully chosen texts and opportunities to read for pleasure, children develop their imagination, vocabulary and understanding of the world. Books also help bring learning to life across different subjects, encouraging thoughtful discussions and a deeper appreciation of different people, cultures and experiences.
While every Panther is encouraged to develop their own skills, confidence and individuality, we also understand the importance of working together. Whether collaborating on creative projects, tackling challenges in the classroom or developing teamwork through PE and outdoor adventurous activities, children learn to celebrate one another's successes and encourage each other along the way.
Above all, Panthers is a happy, welcoming and supportive place where everyone belongs. We want every child to feel valued, develop a love of learning, build lasting friendships and have the confidence to be the very best they can be.
