Dragonflies

Dragonflies: Creative and Caring

In Dragonflies, we love to learn! We encourage every child to approach new experiences with confidence, curiosity and a positive ‘I can’ attitude.

Phonics and reading are an important part of learning in both Reception and Year 1. The children enjoy interactive, engaging and fun phonics sessions each day, helping them to build strong foundations for reading and writing. We also love sharing stories, discovering new vocabulary and developing our early writing skills through meaningful and creative activities.

In Maths, we build a secure understanding of numbers through practical, hands-on learning. Children explore place value, addition and subtraction, developing a deep understanding before moving on to new ideas. As their confidence grows, they begin to use reasoning and problem-solving skills to apply their learning in different ways.

Our days include a balance of adult-led teaching and independent learning within our well-resourced classroom provision. Whether learning indoors or outdoors, children are encouraged to follow their interests, explore, create and use their developing skills across the curriculum.

In Dragonflies, every child is supported, challenged and celebrated. We work hard, have lots of fun and, most importantly, believe in ourselves!

Our learning is brought to life through a range of engaging topics. This year, our themes are:

  • Who am I and where do I belong?

  • What happens in the night sky?

  • What happened 'Once upon a time..?'

  • What makes animals amazing?

  • How does your garden grow?

  • What is it like where I live?
